Signs Your Heater Needs Repair
- It’s Not Turning On
You set your thermostat on the heat setting, but nothing happened—your heater will not turn on. If your heating system fails to start, you can have one of the following: low fuel, a broken thermostat, or an overheated motor.
Here is what you need to do:
Step one—check your fuel tank. To do so, locate the gas valve. If the gas valve is shut, all you have to do to restore function to your heating system is refill your tank with fuel! If your gas valve is open, you will need to proceed to step two.
Step two—double-check that your thermostat is on the heat setting. Once it is set, increase your indoor temperature by five degrees Fahrenheit and your system should start! If your heater still fails to produce warm air, move on to step three.
Step three—reset your heating system’s motor. Turn your heater off, and do not turn it back for about thirty minutes. If your system is still not distributing the heated air, throughout your home, contact Weathermakers for heating repair.
- You Have A Flickering Pilot Light
If your pilot light is flickering on and off, your heating system is not getting a consistent gas supply. This is a direct result of a malfunctioning thermocouple. A thermocouple controls your gas valve. It is a heat-sensitive device that keeps the gas valve open and ready, so a flame can ignite. Your thermocouple will need professional repair.
- You Hear Banging & Clanking
When you turn on your heating unit, it is normal to hear some humming and a few pops; however, if you hear banging and clanking during the course of a heating cycle—something needs repair. The culprit here is typically a loose part. Once secured, your heater will operate smoothly and silently.

When you want to use your heater, it will work, and it will work well. Having a heating system that you can rely on, especially when our Florida nights start to carry a chill in the air, is a must. You want to be confident in your heating system’s capabilities so you never have to fret about an inopportune malfunction. With Weathermakers Air Conditioning & Heating, preventative maintenance will accomplish this for you. Your system will always be at the ready.
- Lower Utility Costs
Regular maintenance ensures that your heating system is running efficiently. And, when your unit is efficient, it becomes more cost-effective. A malfunction-free heater does not have to work overtime to complete your heating cycles, reducing your energy use and your utility bills.
- Maintain Good Air Quality
Most heating devices—from furnaces to heat pumps—all have air filtration systems that are supposed to trap contaminants and only let clean, filtered air into your home. However, when these air filters get overloaded with dust, dirt, and other grime, they cannot properly separate the harmful particles from your air, and your indoor air quality becomes compromised.
Change your air filters at least every 90 days. If you notice dust accumulating in your living space, we recommend changing your filters every 30 days. This will keep your home clean and healthy for you and your family.
