Why It’s Important to Vacuum Your Home

Completing simple and mundane household chores may not seem like the most important task of your day. But, those easy tasks could be the most critical. Take vacuuming for example: it holds more importance than one may think.

With many homes containing carpeting, vacuuming holds a lot of stock when it comes to the health of your family members and for the life-capacity of your carpet itself.

Why Should I Vacuum on a Regular Basis?

Prevents Health Concerns

From pet dander to dust fibers, these particles can cause people with asthma or allergies to have flare-ups. With these micro-substances getting stuck within carpet fibers, not vacuuming regularly can cause these to be stirred up into the air within your home, which doesn’t bode well for your family members. With a regularly cleaned carpet, this prevents allergic reactions, along with breathing problems, that could be potentially harmful.

Additionally, as people and pets drag in dirt from outside, your carpet becomes a minefield of bacteria, soil, and other germs that can be tracked inside. The more these substances embed themselves into your carpet, the more health concerns you can have. Make sure to pay extra attention to the high-traffic areas of your rug when vacuuming!

Prevents Odors

If carpets are not cleaned properly, or regularly, they can become prone to bad odors. Due to bacteria and potential food particles that have become old and have begun rotting (gross!). These are just a few of the ways that odors can be generated within your carpet!

Similarly, if your HVAC system isn’t working effectively it could increase the humidity within your home, causing your carpets to become damp. A damp carpet brings on strange odors that no one wants within their home. With this being said, it can be beneficial to install a dehumidifier.

Increase Carpet Lifespan

Vacuuming your carpet on a regular basis can help extend its lifespan greatly. Since carpets are susceptible to containing mold, bacteria, and dirt in general from shoes. These substances, especially dirt, can tear at the fibers, causing them to fall out or lose their pristine-look. Vacuuming will reduce the amount of dirt accumulation leaving your carpet — especially those high traffic areas as clean as they were before!

While carpets can contain dirt and bacteria, they can negatively affect your indoor air quality.
