Trick or Treat?—Home Heating Edition
Our tricks are your treats. Instead of the traditional trick or treating, where “tricks” refer to mischievous games and “treats” equate to chocolate-covered candy gifts, our version of trick or treating is more of a win-win scenario.
This Halloween we are handing out home heating hacks. So, treat yourself to these Weathermakers Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc. insider tips!
Home Heating Tricks & Treats
Home Heating Trick: Hang Curtains
Home Heating Treat: It is only natural to lose radiant heat through large windows; however, it is preventable! By installing curtains in your home you can reduce heat loss, increasing heating efficiency and reducing your utility bills.
Home Heating Trick: Cook!
Home Heating Treat: Your kitchen has built-in home heating capabilities. Both your oven and your stove are heat-generating appliances and can heat your home during use. So, get cooking and you’ll be able to lower the temperature on your thermostat by a few degrees, saving energy.
Home Heating Trick: Rearrange Your Furniture
Home Heating Treat: As we mentioned earlier, heat can be lost through windows. As a result, during the winter, it is recommended to rearrange your furniture away from your windows! If your favorite armchair lives by your big living room window, move it away and you will naturally retain more body heat!
Home Heating Trick: Change The Rotation Of Your Ceiling Fans
Home Heating Treat: Did you know that your ceiling fans can also produce warm air? Well, they can! On the side of your ceiling fan, there is a switch that will reserve the rotation of your fan from counterclockwise to clockwise. When your fan is turning clockwise, warm air will be pushed down into your room!
Home Heating Trick: Seal Air Leaks
Home Heating Treat: Your home cannot retain heat when you have air leaks around your windows and doors—the produced air will just seep out! Install weatherstripping around doors and caulking around windows to seal your air leaks. Additionally, check your ductwork for any cracks or holes, as leaks in your ductwork reduce the efficiency of your HVAC system.
Home Heating Trick: Update Your Bedding
Home Heating Treat: When you are cold, you put on an additional layer of clothing or a thicker garment. You can do the same with your bedding. You will be able to reduce heater use, saving money, by simply adding more blankets to your bed, or switching to a heavier fabric.
Home Heating Trick: Add A Rug
Home Heating Treat: It’s all about insulation. And, adding a throw rug to your space can reduce the amount of heat lost through your flooring. Almost 10% of home heat loss occurs through your floors—go buy that shag rug you’ve been eyeing!
